Southwest Engineers Announces Two Newly Licensed Professional Engineers

Austin, TX – July 9, 2013 – Southwest Engineers Inc., a full-service civil and environmental engineering consulting firm, today announced that team project engineers, Jeffrey Kallus and Chris Belcik, have earned their Professional Engineer licenses, the engineering profession’s highest standard of competence and most noted symbol of achievement.

Professional Engineering certification grants engineers the ability to prepare, sign, seal and submit engineering plans and drawings to a public authority for approval, as well as seal engineering work for public and private clients. Professional Engineer licensees are required to adhere to high ethical standards of practice and maintain and improve their skills throughout their careers to retain their licenses.

To attain a Professional Engineer license from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers, both engineers had to receive a civil engineering degree from an accredited four-year college, complete four years of progressive engineering experience under another licensed Professional Engineer, and pass two intensive competency exams.

Jeffrey Kallus, a member of the Southwest Engineers team since 2008, has designed multiple, complex water distribution lines, storage tanks and water plant improvements, as well as created and analyzed hydraulic models and their impact on system improvement. He earned his license in December 2012. Jeffrey is a 2003 graduate of Hallettsville High School.

Chris Belcik began work with Southwest Engineers as an intern in May of 2007. Since becoming a full time staff member in 2009, Chris has worked on hydraulic modeling and major design projects for water plants and water distribution systems. Chris has also worked with state and federal agencies such as the Texas Water Development Board and United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development to obtain funding for municipalities and water systems. He earned his license in June 2013. Chris is a 2003 graduate of Sacred Heart High School.

Belcik and Kallus are both 2008 graduates of the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University. They now join eight of their Southwest Engineers colleagues in the honor of having earned their Professional Engineer licenses.
